Memberships Mr. Varndell offers over twenty-five years of diverse experience in the IP industry. He began his career serving as a patent examiner with the PTO for six years. He then entered private practice servicing the IP needs of major international corporations. In 2008, he served as an Administrative Patent Judge with the PTO Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences (BPAI) in the electrical division. Mr. Varndell's corporate IP experience includes advising international corporate clients on IP and other legal issues including trade secret protection, and patent strategies in crowded technology areas to increase market power. He is expert in the patent appeal process and in opinion practice including validity, infringement, and due diligence. Mr. Varndell's representative areas of expertise include biotechnology, polymer chemistry, pharmaceuticals, ceramic and other inorganic chemistry, semiconductors, lasers, semiconductors, telecommunications, vehicle navigational systems and other software, vehicle hydraulic and emission control systems. Mr. Varndell founded and operated the private IP firm of Varndell & Varndell, PLLC for nineteen years prior to merging with Posz Law Group in 2005. In 2008 he accepted an appointment as an Administrative Patent Judge with the PTO BPAI. In 2009, Mr. Varndell reentered private IP practice serving as Of Counsel to the firm. Prior to 1986, Mr. Varndell achieved partnership status in the IP law firm of Armstrong, Nikaido, Marmelstein & Kubovcik. He also worked as patent examiner at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office for six years.
